Harvest of black currant in Poland under the threat

The National Association of Black Currant Producers in Poland predicts a decrease in currant yield due to dry weather.

“Because of the drought prevailing in most of the country last year, the plants were poorly prepared for the season, the fruit ovaries did not form after flowering, and the buds of some varieties of black currant turned out to be too weak, so this year we will have a low yield”, said the president of the National Association of Black Currant Producers in Poland Peter Baryla.

Today, 50% of the plants are blooming on the plantations, however, a new drought can cause berries to fall down.

The President of the National Association of Black Currant Producers in Poland added that despite the drought last year, the fruit harvest in that year was extremely high, about 130 thousand tons.
